Richard Dickson, Director of Bands

Director of bands in his fourth year at Stayton High School, Mr. Dickson has began to establish and maintain a good reputation for the instrumental music programs under his direction, including the Stayton High School Symphonic Band and the Stayton High School Jazz Ensemble. Both ensembles are constantly at work to strive and maintain the right sound in which to become better bands. Each ensemble is very good at setting goals and achieving them within their own expectations and the expectations of the ensemble as a whole. They have worked extremely hard in the past few years and show improvement with the passage of time.

  Stayton High School Pep Band

The Stayton High School Symphonic Band will hit the ground running during the first few weeks of school in order to prepare for the first game of the season that the band will play at, the home Football game on Friday, September 24^th vs. the Gladiators from Gladstone High School. The Symphonic Band has continued to grow steadily every year and the Pep Band continues to gain a steady knowledge of pop, rock and other classics to add more to their repertoire.

Stayton High School Symphonic Band

The Stayton High School Symphonic Band is a class made up of primarily Woodwind, Brass and Percussion players. Meeting for 50 minutes per day, this is the largest band class at Stayton High School. During the fall, this group of musicians comes together to form the SHS Pep Band that plays at most of the home football games during the season. This Band Participates in both the Capital Conference Showcase in early December and the Capital Conference Band Festival held in early April

                               Stayton High School Jazz Ensemble

The Stayton High School Jazz Band is a class made up of woodwind, Brass and Percussion Players. Meeting for 45 minutes per day, The Stayton High School Jazz Ensemble is the “Elite” Performing Group of the Instrumental Music Department. During the Winter, this band is involved in playing Pep Music at all home Basketball Games. In April, This band is involved n the University of  Portland Jazz Band Festival.
