The purpose of Ski Club is "to promote skiing and other snow activities designed to increase the enjoyment of winter sports by its active students.” Our focus is on a safe and socially congenial environment for our students.

Because all of our trips and activities are organized through Stayton High School, costs are considerably less.   For those students who are interested, the ski club also offers many opportunities for leadership involvement. Come meet new friends, hone your leadership skills, and have fun, all at the same time.

2007-2008 Season

The overnight ski trip for the 2005-2006 Ski season will be Big Mountain in Whitefish Montana. If you have not had the opportunity of visiting this resort, it offer's ski in ski out along with night skiing and boarding. Travel to Big Mountain will be by Amtrak; it is an overnight ride to Whitefish, Montana, then and a bus will take us to the slopes, in about 30 minutes.

This trip will allow three days of skiing rather than two days as in the past, Plan on departing Stayton on Thursday January 24, right after finals at about 2pm. The train is scheduled to return to Portland, Monday January, 28. Booking our reservations early insures us the accommodations and the resort we want for the lowest cost. Big Mountain offers great skiing for all levels and promises a memorable trip for our students. The cost per person is $385.00 per person, based on 4 to a room with two sharing a queen-sized bed.  Additions or reductions in cost will vary depending on a few options available; such as “non skiers”, “Sleeper cars” or Lodging options and trip Insurance.  This includes:

Round trip bus fare from SHS to Portland Amtrak Station

Round Trip Train fare, coach class, from Portland, Oregon to Whitefish, Montana

Round Trip Bus fare from Whitefish to Big Mountain

2 Nights of Ski in- Ski out Lodging 4 students sharing 3 Beds

3 Day's lift tickets 9am -4pm

All meals on the mountain

I recommend that each person bring a little extra money for meals during the train trip. Meals are not included on the train; there is a dinning car and snack bar available during the trip.

I have reserved Train and lodging for 60 persons at this time. If you plan on going you will need your $100.00 non-refundable deposit in ASAP. currently there are 48 persons signed up for the trip. There are a few more days to make a reservation or the rooms will cancel. After that date you can go if there is space available for transportation and lodging. There will be adult supervision during the train trips and at the Condo's.

It is extremely difficult to have direct supervision on the mountain of each student. There will be procedures for contacting myself or other chaperones while at the mountain. We will have bed checks each night and any unruly or conduct not fitting with the standards set will be dealt with by the chaperone and advisor. Schedules will be given to each participant two weeks prior to leaving.

Look for our newsletter, we will update this each month during the ski season.
