Course Title: Accapella Choir                                                 Department: FA

Instructor: Mrs. Allen-Jackson                                                            Grade Level: 10-12

Prerequisite: Solo Audition, Teacher Evaluation                                   Units of Credit: 1

 

Course Overview: The Accapella Choir will have an enrollment number determined on an equal amount of SATB singers. Advanced literature is studied in styles ranging from Baroque to Modern. At least 2 public performances will be given each year and this choir will be entered in fall festivals and spring competitions.

 

Course Content/Goals: The student’s skill in vocal performance, both in vocal artistry as well as showmanship, will be polished to a high degree. The group will perform in our community during the school year.  Ear-training and sight-singing skills will be studied at the college preparatory level.

 

Course Materials: Supplementary materials, No Textbooks.

 

Assessment:

*Grading Scale: As per student handbook

*Grading Percentages- Daily grades + 50% - 100% (depending on performance schedule)

            Performances = 40%  Tests = 10%

*Daily grades consist of: Attendance, class participation, correct posture, class materials, and self-discipline.

Attendance/Tardies:

*Because choir is a performance class, absences are counted as part of your grade. It is important that students are “on-time” for class. Tardies will be counted against you as per handbook instructions.

Office Hours: My preparation period is the first half of fourth period. I am available during this time to help students with individual questions. I am also available from 7:30 am until 8:00 am each day. Any fundraising monies will be taken before school: NOT DURING CLASS TIME>
