Course Title: Chanticlairs                                                                    Department:  FA

Instructor: Mrs. Allen-Jackson                                                            Grade Level 9-12

Prerequisite: Solo Audition, Teacher Evaluation                                   Units of Credit: 1

                    Written audition

 

Course Overview: Chanticlairs will be composed of 14-24 singers, 3-5 instrumentalists, and 1-2 aides.  Interested students must have taken at least one class under the direction of the teacher. Advanced literature is studied, specifically that written for jazz. Many public performances are given each year; therefore, students must be prepared for a heavy time commitment. Foreign travel is every other year.

 

Course Content/Goals:  The student’s skill in vocal performance, both in vocal artistry as well as showmanship, will be polished to a high degree. The group will perform frequently throughout the community and occasionally in other cities. Ear-training and sight-singing skills will be studied at the college preparatory level.

 

Course Materials: Supplementary materials, No Textbooks

 

Assessment:

*Grading Scale- As per student handbook

*Grading Percentages- Daily grades = 50% - 100% (depending on performance schedule)

            Performances = 40%    Tests = 10%

*Daily grades consist of: Attendance, class participation, correct posture, class materials, and self-discipline

Attendance/Tardies:

*Because choir is a performance class, absences are counted as part of your grade. It is important that students are “on time” for class. Tardies will be counted against you as per handbook instructions.

Office Hours: My preparation period is the first half of fourth period. I am available during this time to help students with individual questions. I am also available from 7:30 am until 8:00 am each day. Any fundraising monies will be taken before school: NOT DURING CLASS TIME>
