Course
Overview: This course will prepare
students to take the Advanced Placement Literature Exam in the spring. Preparation includes a rigorous study and
analysis of college-level literature:
drama, novels, short stories and poetry.
Course
Goals:
·Improve oral communication
skills, through class discussion and panel presentations
·Be able to write effectively
in various modes with an emphasis on expository writing
·Improve reading skills by
reading and analyzing a variety of college-level literature
·Increase vocabulary to
prepare for the SAT, the ACT and the AP exams
·Study the biographical,
historical and cultural context of authors and their societies

provide you with your grade average every 1-2
weeks. Any time you are
concerned and would like a printout of your assignments or an updated average,
just let me know.
This is the approximate weight of each component of
your grade:
Daily
work, quizzes 30%
Tests,
projects 30%
Writing

Final
Exam 10%
Late work will be reduced in grade and generally may
not be made up for credit after one week unless you have special
permission. I will give you two
“Amnesty” passes, which may be used to receive full credit on assignments for
two class days after the due date. They
may not be used on quizzes or tests.

Exceptions will be made in the case of transfer students.

about make-up work. You will have one week to make up work following an
excused absence. Work missed due to
unexcused absences will not receive credit.
I will assign after-school detention for each tardy beginning with the
fourth.

speaking. For more detailed

This course will address personal management, problem solving, communication and teamwork as career development skills.
I am available to you daily from 7:30 to 8:00 and
3:00 to 3:30. In addition, my
preparation period is 2nd, and I will generally be available during lunch each
day. If you need to see me at other
times, we can make arrangements.

Hall passes:
I will give you 4 hall passes each semester to use for restroom, locker,
etc. Unused passes will be worth extra
credit points on the final exam, if your attendance record warrants it. If you need a pass and don’t have one
available, you may be required to stay after class or serve after school
