Course Overview:  This class is a survey of drama course, with a special emphasis on Shakespeare and theatre history.

 

Course Goals: 

                ·Become familiar with the general characteristics of literature

                ·Improve oral communication skills

·Be able to write effectively in various modes:  expository, persuasive, narrative and imaginative

                ·Employ a multi-step process for writing

                ·Improve reading skills by reading and analyzing a variety of literature

                ·Increase vocabulary to prepare for the SAT

                ·Plan and execute independent projects

Videos may include:

Supplemental Materials:

Students must come to each class with writing utensils, paper, binder, or notebook for daily notes and the current textbook.

 

Assessment: 

Grading Scale:  See Student Handbook.  I will provide you with your grade average every 1-2  weeks.  Any time you are concerned and would like a printout of your assignments or an updated average, just let me know.

 

This is the approximate weight of each component of your grade:

                Daily work                       30%       

                Quizzes, tests, projects                30%

                Writing assignments                30%

                Final Exam                       10%

 

Late work will be reduced in grade and generally may not be made up for credit after one week unless you have special permission.  I will give you two “Amnesty” passes, which may be used to receive full credit on assignments for two class days after the due date.  They may not be used on quizzes or tests.

 

Major assignments:  Shakespeare literary criticism paper in April

See the Student Handbook for details.  When you have an excused absence, see me about make-up work.  You will usually need to make up quizzes and tests outside of class.  See me to make arrangements.  You will have extra time to complete the assignments.  Work missed due to unexcused absences will not receive credit.  I will assign after-school detention for each tardy beginning with the fourth.
