Course
Overview: This course if for elected
and appointed student body officers. The purpose of this course is to develop
and encourage leadership skills and to plan and prepare for ASB sponsored
events.
Course Content/Goals: The content of this course is
primarily determined by the activities planned and the needs of the student
body at the time. The Student Body President determines the goals for each year
and class meeting with the help of the instructors.

are required to keep an ASB notebook. (Details Follow)

§
Final Grades are given according to the scale outlined in
the SHS Handbook.
§
Grading
in this class will be done on a point basis.
We don't use a "curve", and it is possible for everyone in the
class to get an A if they meet the
standards for high proficiency.
§
It
is your responsibility to keep track of your grade. If you have a question of
concern about your grade, you must make an appointment with me after class,
during lunch, or before/after school.
DO NOT ASK ME ABOUT YOUR
GRADE DURING CLASS TIME.

Assignments/Make-Up Work:
§
Turn
in all assignment on the day that they are due.
§
Attendance and Active Participation (25%):
To meet requirements for this portion of your grade
you must attend and actively participate in at least 7 ASB Sponsored Events outside
of school time (this can include set up/clean up/running and event). Events
on our calendar that are bold are required.
MAKE-UP WORK: If you cannot attend a
required event you must find a replacement worker and you will only receive ½
the points available.
§
Logged Hours (25%):
You must document 15 logged hours of time spent serving the school or community. An
adult must sign off on your log for these hours. Anything you do outside of
school time for ASB can count toward these hours, outside of the 7 required
events that will meet your attendance and active participation portion of your
grade.
Special
Exceptions:
Volunteer work you do on a regular basis can be
counts as a blanket 5 hours of time (i.e. teaching Sunday School, coaching YMCA
ball, police cadet work etc.). The advisor must approve this before the
semester begins.
MAKE-UP WORK: An
additional service hour is required for every absence that you have (i.e.
cleaning the school or ASB office, working on a project, picking up trash,
etc.). An adult must sign off on all
make hours.
§
Project (25%):
One project must be completed. Details are on
separate handout and will be discussed in class.
§
Evaluations (25%):
An evaluation for each event you organize or chair-
from a skit to Homecoming Week, must be written and submitted within 2 weeks of the event. A detailed,
thoughtful final exam is included in this part of your grade.
§
Students
excused for school-sponsored activities will be expected to complete work
BEFORE the absence for the activity. To all those involved in athletics,
extra-curricular clubs, and choir or band: Your schedules are especially
demanding but missed assignments or late work will not be excused. Be
responsible. Plan ahead.

Informative and Persuasive (If you are
in need of meeting a work sample in this class please make arrangements with
the teacher early in the semester.)
§
This
is an activity-based class, therefore it is imperative that you attend class
regularly and arrive promptly. You have an obligation to your classmates and to
the school.
§
If
you are absent, you are expected to make up the missed assignments! It is your
responsibility to schedule make - up work and or cover at events that you have
committed to.
§
Tardies
are disruptive to class. See SHS
Handbook for school policy. A student
is tardy when he or she is not seated and ready to work when the bell
rings.
Specific Class Rules/Behavior Expectations:
§
The rules for this
class are very simple. Respect yourselves, your classmates, your instructor and
the classroom itself.
§
Come
prepared to actively learn. Bring appropriate materials and take bathroom
breaks BEFORE class. (Classes are only 50 minutes long it is crucial that you
attend every minute)
§
Cheating
will not be tolerated, each student is responsible for his/her own work and it
will be dealt with according to current SHS policies. There are no exceptions
to this rule, and a failing grade could be given to the offending student(s).
§
Stay
on task: Never assume you have "free time." You should be doing the
assigned work at all times. See instructor if you have everything completed.
§
Represent
Stayton High School in a positive manner at the school and in the community.
You are expected to sign a code of conduct that outlines consequences and
expectations of your behavior.
§
You
must have a pass and then check out in the office when you leave campus. A
signed permission form must be returned from a parent before you will be
allowed to leave.
§
Please do not engage in disruptive
behavior (talking, moving around the classroom, etc…) while I am talking.
§
I
absolutely insist that my students show a positive attitude of respect and
support toward all other people. Classroom
discussion will be an important part of this class- raise your hand to
participate and listen quietly to your classmates as they make a statement or
ask a question. It is important that the classroom is a comfortable and safe
place for everyone. Ridicule of other students, groups of students, or groups
in society will not be tolerated.
§
Use polite, adult speech. ‘Put-downs’ or other degrading comments are
not allowed. Remember to respect
yourselves and your classmates.
§
Turn off all communication and music
devices at the door. Keep them turned
off and out of sight or I will take them for the remainder of the class period.

teamwork, cooperation, career choices and skills will be addressed in this
class as described in the Oregon Career-Related Learning standards.
Office
hours:
I
am available 4th period (10:50 – 11:40). I am also available from
7:30-8:00 a.m. or after school from 3:00 - 4:00 PM. You have been given both my
cell phone and my home email if you need to reach me. You can reach all staff
via the school website at www.staytonhigh.com,
all emails will be returned within 24 hours.
SHS encourages parental
involvement and comments. For that
reason, I’m requiring that my student take this home and have it signed by a
parent or guardian. If you have any
