Course Title: General Math I Grade Level: 9-10

Course Overview: The three strands tested by the CIM, statistics, geometry, and algebra, are the major emphasis of this course. Computation skills with whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages will be covered as well as problem solving, practical application, order of operations and signed numbers.
Course Goals: In this class, you will be improving your math skills. The activities will both help you to meet your Math CIM requirements next year and prepare you to enter Pre Algebra.
Course Materials:
Textbook: Mathematics (Globe Feron) Replacement cost $56.00.
Material that students need to bring to class every day:
· Pencils
· Notebook paper
· Spiral notebook for notes and vocabulary
· Grading scale as per student handbook
· Grading percentages:
45% daily work, 40% quizzes and test, 15% semester exam.
· Late work: If you are in class when the assignment is made you should be prepared to grade and turn it in the following day the class meets. If you do not turn the assignment in then it will be considered late. Late work will be accepted only three days after the assignment has been collected. The score of the late paper will be reduced by 50%. It is very important that you keep up in class. You will be assigned homework almost every time this class meets. If you fall below 60% you will sign a contract stating that you will turn in 75% of your work or an amount agreed upon between you and your teacher. If you fail to meet this standard, you will be given a 30 minute detention.

Attendance:
· Tardiness and unexcused absences as per student handbook
· Assignments missed due to unexcused absences will receive a zero

Office Hours:
I am available from 7:35-7:00 a.m. and 3:00-3:30 daily or you may call for an appointment. I coach swimming and during the winter season I may not be available at the 3:00-3:30 time.
