Course Title: Personal Finance Department: Business

Course Overview: This is a required class. We examine modern issues that face consumers every day. Some of the main topics will be goal setting and decision making, financial planning, careers, personal budgets, smart shopping, saving and investing, using credit and credit cards wisely, and keeping auto insurance costs down.
Course Goals: In this class, you will be improving post high school survival skills: check writing, debit and credit card use, Internet safety, housing and vehicle costs.

Assessment:
Grading Scale—as per student handbook
Grading percentages:
Daily work 40%, Project 20%, Quizzes and Tests 25%, Final 15%
Late work: If you are in class when the assignment is made you should be prepared to grade and turn it in the following day the class meets. If you do not turn the assignment in then it will be considered late. Late work will be accepted only three days after the assignment has been collected. The score of the late paper will be reduced by 50%. It is a very important that you keep up in class. You will be assigned homework almost every time this class meets.
CIM Work Samples Available in this class:
One writing sample will be scored in this class.
Attendance:
Tardiness and unexcused absences as per student handbook
Assignments missed due to unexcused absences will receive a zero.
Class Rules:

6. Make up all missed assignments.
7. Eight hall passes will be given to you for the semester. Each may be turned in for extra credit on the final exam.

Office Hours: I am available from 7:35-8:00 and 3:00-3:30 every day. I coach swimming and may not be available at 3:00-3:30 time during the winter season.
