Course Title: Adventure Literature Department: Language Arts

Course Overview: In this course, students will explore the lives of young people
who find themselves in unexpected adventures.
Students will write essays and create projects relevant to the genre of
adventure literature.
Course Content/Goals:
Become familiar with the
characteristics of the adventure genre
Improve oral
communication skills
Be able to write
effectively in various modes:
expository, persuasive, narrative and imaginative
Learn and employ a multi-step process for writing
Improve reading skills
by reading and analyzing a variety of literature
Increase vocabulary
Plan and execute
independent projects
Student Material Requirements: Students must come to each class with writing utensils, paper,
binder, or notebook for daily notes and the current textbook.

Grading Scale: See Student Handbook. I will provide you with your grade average
every 1-2 weeks. Any time you are
concerned and would like a printout of your assignments or an updated average,

Late work will be reduced in grade and
generally may not be turned in for credit after one week, unless you have
special permission.

Attendance/Tardies
See the Student Handbook for details. When you have an excused absence, see me about
make-up work. You will usually need to
make up quizzes and tests outside of class. See me to make arrangements. You will have extra time to complete the
assignments. Work missed due to
unexcused absences will not receive credit.
I will assign after-school detention for each tardy beginning with the
fourth.

Office Hours
I am available to you daily from 7:30 to
8:00 and 3:00 to 3:30 in room 121. In
addition, my preparation period is 2nd each day and I can be
available during lunch if necessary. If
you need to see me at other times, we can make arrangements.
